The First Altitude Record
Aurimas Vengrys and  Vytautas Sviderskism pilots of Ballooning Centre, climbed into 7212 m height in open basked of hot air balloon “LUKOIL” and thus achieved the first altitude record of Lithuania.

The flight was observed by representatives of Lithuanian Aero club, Lithuanian Balloon Association and Agency “Factum”.

Pilots launched late in the morning at 8.10 AM near Panevezys (middle of Lithuania). The flight was planned to start in Vilnius, but examination of weather forecast on the last night showed a chance to enter air space of Belarus, so pilots had to move about 100 km North West to avoid it.

At 9.27 AM the balloon reached altitude of 7,2 km. Although pilots felt well and had enough gas, they had to take a difficult decision to descend, since maximum temperature of balloon envelope (124ºC) was reached.  For higher altitude pilots would have to heat more and the risk to overheat the balloon would appear. Moreover, the burner flame felt a lack of oxygen, so started work with brakes.

11.05 AM hot air balloon landed not far away from the launch place.  Pilots we met by their crew and club mates. The record was celebrated as it had to be.
